I have removed the line in the table that claimed that the 2016 UK will be in Santiago. The UEA won't be coming out with an official statement on the location of the 101st UK until Spring 2014. At the UK in Reykjavik, the head of Esperanto-USA mentioned the hope of a UK in San Diego. The representative of the Chilean group simply offered greetings. please note, the table was taken from the German encyclopedia so some city names may not be translated yet. Revolución 02:48, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Anyway, Santiago is a different place from San Diego. Dawud (talk) 07:08, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

When will a universal congress take place in Africa? Kiam universala kongreso okazos en afriko?

If this list of places represents the Esperanto-speaking community, then it looks like that community is about 90% or so in Europe - apart from a few meetings in Japan, S.Korea, P.R.China and Cuba, hardly any seem to be outside of Europe. i guess this can be understood: Latin Americans get by with spanish/portuguese as being close enough to each other and understood in the whole region, North Americans and Africans have English and French as a lingua franca. Since European colonisation of East Asia failed, a lot of people in Europe and Asia who want an easier alternative to English can understandably feel that Esperanto could be a good intermediary language... They try to alternate between Europe, Asia, and the Americas. The scheme (which does tend to shortchange Africa, as you say) has little to do with where E-ists are concentrated. For example, Iran has a large-ish community, but would be unable to meet the conditions of a UK (such as guaranteeing visas for participants, not to mention their freedom of speech). Europe does seem to attract the most participation--whether because more E-ists live there, or because Europeans have more time and money to waste on artificial language pursuits.Dawud (talk) 07:07, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

World or Universal?

[edit]

I think the headline should be "Universal Congress of Esperanto", not "World".

This is the literal translation. Besides, there are several World Congresses of Esperanto each year (e. g. the SAT congress), but only one of them is universal (i. e. not specialized).

The title of the article

[edit]

The official English name of the event is “World Esperanto Congress” (see at the website of UEA: http://uea.org/kongresoj/partners). I have succeeded in changing it in the article itself, but it needs to be changed also in the title. Who can help me with it? --Fiskot (talk) 22:36, 14 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Agree Marek Mazurkiewicz (talk) 17:37, 15 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, why not. I filed the WP:RM as uncontroversial technical request, I doubt there will be any serious opposition to the move. //Halibutt 13:05, 2 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
